Devil’s Slide Trail Description

The Devil’s Slide Trail wastes no time—it starts climbing almost immediately from the roadside parking area on Northside Road, just outside the picturesque covered bridge in the Village of Stark. The trail is unrelenting but manageable, climbing steadily through mixed hardwood forest with occasional rocky steps and root-filled sections (especially near the top) that keep things interesting.

After about a mile of steep but straightforward hiking, the trees begin to thin, and you’ll catch your first glimpses of views from the tops of sheer cliff faces. The trail skirts the edge of the ledges, until you’re standing at a wide, rocky overlook with commanding views of the Village of Stark, the Upper Ammonoosuc River valley, and the rolling mountains of northern New Hampshire beyond.

It’s the kind of view that feels like a reward out of proportion to the effort—and it’s a perfect spot for a trail snack, a photo shoot, or just sitting in silence for a while.
